Brief description: Assistive Technology of Alaska (ATLA) connects Alaskans who have disabilities with the tools they need to learn, work, play, and participate in community life safely and independently. ATLA offers statewide no-cost equipment demonstrations, information and assistance, short term loans (as items are available) and awareness activities. Staff help search for funding options, develop partnerships with state agencies and organizations, and publish resource materials. ATLA coordinates the statewide Alaska Trading Post, an on-line searchable database of used equipment and AT devices as part of the state’s re-utilization program. ATLA offers fee-for-service assessments, trainings and technical assistance in addition to re-selling assistive technology. ATLA staff does not advocate for or recommend specific devices or software programs. They provide consumers with enough knowledge to make “informed choices” about different technologies that meet their needs and skills. Consumers are encouraged to tryout their selections at their local demonstration center.

As a long-term acute care hospital, Gaylord is staffed and equipped to handle the specific needs of acutely ill or chronically disabled patients who require a hospital level of care. Brief description: The Interagency Program for Assistive Technology (IPAT) delivers services so people with disabilities of all ages can get the assistive technology they need for work, school, and home. IPAT has demo centers in Bismarck and Fargo where anyone can receive a demonstration of assistive technology equipment at no cost. This can be done at the Centers or virtually via video conferencing. We also have an Equipment Loan Library where people can rent devices for a nominal fee for up to six weeks. Brief description:The Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) is the United States Army’s flagship medical center. Located in Washington, D.C., it serves more than 150,000 active and retired personnel from all branches of the military. The center is named after Major Walter Reed (1851–1902), an army physician who led the team which confirmed that yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes rather than direct contact. Since its origins, what is now the WRAMC medical care facility has grown from a bed capacity of 80 patients to approximately 5,500 rooms. WRAMC will be combining with the Bethesda Naval Hospital by 2011 to form the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC).
